Blog – Farewell Linda Marrinon Artist Room

Posted on May 17, 2017 by MCA Team in Curatorial. View Comments

In September 2016, MCA launched the first of its Artist Room series. The series highlights the depth of the Museum’s holdings of a single artist’s practice. The first exhibition considered the work of Melbourne artist Linda Marrinon. Along with a new commission, the exhibition included significant paintings from the 1980s to show the artist’s transition from painting to sculpture.

Artist Room: Linda Marrinon was curated by Manya Sellers, MCA Assistant Curator, Collection.

On her experience of curating the Artist Room Sellers said: “I’ve been a long time fan of Linda Marrinon’s work, so it was an absolute privilege and pleasure to curate the inaugural Artist Room featuring a selection of her early paintings and recent sculpture from the MCA Collection. It was especially rewarding to work so closely with Linda to realise this presentation and to be able to add to our great holdings of her work with the exquisite new sculpture The Moir Sisters, 1974.”

It was clear that the work of Linda Marrinon resonated strongly with our visitors. Many took to our iPad app Articulate to share their interpretations of Marrinon’s paintings Sorry! (1982) and I sailed to Tahiti with an all-girl crew (1982).

See below for visitor responses to Marrinon’s work.
